The Berrien County Board of Commissioners has honored retired Berrien County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Robert Boyce for his service to the community. At a Thursday meeting, the board approved a resolution commending him. Chair Mac Elliott.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with him for a long time, ever since he came to the county, and he will be missed,” Elliott said.

Sheriff Paul Bailey said Boyce worked his way up the ranks of the sheriff’s department after coming there in 1995. He said Boyce had an incredible work ethic and always served the public.

“His ability to lead the department and the enforcement division was second to none,” Bailey said. “He’s going to be sorely missed for his work ethic, his dedication. His integrity was never in question. His whole career, he did the right thing all of the time, even if it wasn’t popular.”

Boyce started his police career in 1987 in Hillsdale County. After coming to the sheriff’s department, he served as a deputy, a sergeant, a lieutenant, a captain, and then finally starting in 2017, the chief deputy. He retired in May. Boyce told commissioners it was an honor to serve the community.
