After pleading guilty to charges in April, former Lakeshore Elementary school teacher Perry Heppler was sentenced Monday to 6 to 15 years in prison for second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a child.

The Berrien County Prosecutor’s office told us the 66-year-old Heppler had one count of first degree and two counts of second degree criminal sexual conduct with a person under 13 dropped as part of his plea deal. Heppler is also required to have electronic tether monitoring for the rest of his life.

He was arrested in February after accusations he had sexually assaulted an underage student. The school district says the incident did not happen on school property or during a school event.
