State Representative Pauline Wendzel issued harsh words in reaction to the state budget approved this week in Lansing.

Representative Wendzel’s reaction to the nearly 82-billion dollar budget, the largest budget in Michigan history, was unequivocal.

“Some of us didn’t know if it’s the forest fires or the Democrats burning through cash,” said Wendzel.

Wendzel said while there are many good things in the budget – including the $150 million to restart the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant, the balance overall includes questionable spending.

“I don’t think we need $2 million for a pool in Lansing or splash pads. I mean, some of these things are nice, but a lot of these things that the Democrats are spending this money on from the overview that I’ve seen are things that are one-time funding. And then what do we do when we’re out of money?”

The budget uses most of the $9 billion dollar state surplus, leaving about $300 million remaining.
