Suspect arrested after vehicle thefts, chase in Lincoln Township

A Lincoln Township man is in jail following a some vehicle thefts and a chase with police on Thursday.

The Lincoln Township Police Department says it started around 4 p.m. when officers were called to Red Arrow Highway and John Beers Road for a crash. A 23-year-old man in one of the vehicles jumped into another vehicle at the scene and took off, heading north on Red Arrow Highway.

The suspect then got into another crash at the intersection of St. Joseph Avenue and Red Arrow Highway. He got into another vehicle, a blue Honda Accord that was being driven by a woman, and then sped off again onto I-94.

A few minutes later, Berrien County Central Dispatch got a call about a man running from I-94 through the yard of the Blue Roof Church in St. Joseph. As police were looking for him, they got a call from a woman on Manitou Road who said a man had just broken into her home.

St. Joseph Township police and Berrien County deputies then found the suspect at the home and arrested him.

The suspect was taken to Corewell Health for an evaluation and then to the Berrien County Jail.
