NCAAFB – MSU tells coach Mel Tucker it will fire him for misconduct with rape survivor
Michigan State athletic director Alan Haller has informed suspended football coach Mel Tucker he is being fired for cause without compensation for his conduct with activist and rape survivor Brenda Tracy. Haller says Monday that the notice provides Tucker with seven calendar days to respond and present reasons to me and the interim president as to why he should not be terminated for cause. Tucker is in the third year of a $95 million, 10-year contract. Haller says the decision does not affect the ongoing investigation into Tracy’s allegations of sexual harassment.

Dodgers 8, Tigers 3 – Martinez hits 2 home runs as NL West champion Dodgers roll past Rodriguez and Tigers, 8-3
J.D. Martinez homered twice off Eduardo Rodriguez and drove in five runs as the Los Angeles Dodgers rolled to an 8-3 victory over the Detroit Tigers. Rodriguez, who used his no-trade rights to nix a deal to the Dodgers on Aug. 1, lasted just three-plus innings. He exited in the fourth with an undisclosed injury. Lance Lynn gave up three runs over five innings as NL West champion Los Angeles moved closer to earning a playoff bye and home-field advantage in the Division Series. Jake Rogers hit a three-run homer for the Tigers, who dropped to 3-1 on a 10-game West Coast trip. Miguel Cabrera had a single to tie Adrian Beltre for 16th on the career list with 3,166 hits.

White Sox 6, Nationals 1 – Mike Clevinger pitches a 6-hitter as the White Sox beat the Nationals 6-1
Mike Clevinger pitched a six-hitter for his third career complete game, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Washington Nationals 6-1. Luis Robert Jr. hit a three-run homer for Chicago, which improved to 5-12 in September. Tim Anderson had four of the team’s 15 hits. Clevinger was working on a shutout before Dominic Smith hit his 10th homer with two out in the ninth inning. Smith walked slowly to first while watching the shot to right-center, and then flipped his bat. Clevinger apparently took exception and exchanged words with Smith, prompting benches to clear in an incident that didn’t escalate beyond shouting. Clevinger then struck out Carter Kieboom for the final out.

NFL – National Football League – Week 2
Last Night
New Orleans Saints 20, Carolina Panthers 17
Pittsburgh Steelers 26, Cleveland Browns 22

Saints 20, Panthers 17 –Jones Jr. scores twice, Saints’ defense shuts down Panthers’ Young in 20-17 win
Tony Jones Jr. ran for two touchdowns, rookie Blake Grupe kicked two field goals and the New Orleans Saints defeated the Carolina Panthers 20-17 on Monday night to improve to 2-0 for the first time since 2013. Jones, a practice squad elevation, replaced the injured Jamaal Williams late in the first half and ran for 34 yards on 12 carries. The Saints defense did the rest, holding the Panthers rookie quarterback Bryce Young to 153 yards passing in his Monday Night Football debut. The New Orleans defense limited Carolina to just 239 yards and sacked Young four times. The Saints nearly made it two full games without allowing a touchdown.

Steelers 26, Browns 22 – T.J. Watt’s scoop-and-score lifts Steelers past Browns 26-22
T.J. Watt returned a fumble 17 yards for the go-ahead touchdown midway through the fourth quarter as the Pittsburgh Steelers edged the Cleveland Browns 26-22. The game was overshadowed by a gruesome left knee injury to Browns running back Nick Chubb. The four-time Pro Bowler left on a cart after getting hit low by Pittsburgh safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. The Steelers improved to 1-1, beating Cleveland at home during the regular season for the 20th straight time. The Browns fell to 1-1 and likely will be without one of their best players for a while.

NFL – Browns RB Nick Chubb carted off with serious left knee injury vs. Steelers
Cleveland Browns star running back Nick Chubb was carted off the field with a serious left knee injury against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pittsburgh safety Minkah Fitzpatrick came in low for a tackle at the end of a 5-yard run early in the second quarter and delivered a hit to Chubb’s legs. Chubb’s knee buckled underneath him. After the play, a teammate grabbed Chubb’s hand to try to help him to his feet, and Chubb shook his head while clutching his left knee. He undid his chinstrap and rolled over onto his side. Chubb suffered a major injury to the same knee in 2015 while in college at Georgia — a dislocation with three torn ligaments.

NFL – Lions, Campbell get mixed results on fourth downs in OT loss to Seahawks
Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell made some aggressive and conservative decisions in a 37-31 overtime loss to Seattle on Sunday. The usually gutsy coach went for it on fourth-and-4 instead of attempting a 48-yard field goal in the second quarter and Jared Goff threw an incomplete pass; went for it on fourth-and-3 and eventually scored a touchdown on the drive in third quarter; went for it on fourth-and-2 instead of a punt, helping Seattle have better field position to set up a touchdown at the end of the third quarter. Then on fourth-and-3 at the Seattle 20, he went for the game-tying field goal with 3 seconds left because he said it was too much of a risk to go for it.

NFL – Bears are reeling and things aren’t about to get easier with Chiefs up next
The Chicago Bears are reeling after two discouraging losses to start the season. As if things weren’t bad enough for them, look who’s up next. The Bears are staring at a trip to Kansas City to take on Patrick Mahomes and the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs. Beating the Chiefs is no small task for any team, but it’s a particularly daunting challenge for the Bears given their lackluster start. A 27-17 loss at Tampa Bay on Sunday and another rough outing for Justin Fields coming off a discouraging opener against Green Bay at Soldier Field squelched the optimism surrounding the team following a busy offseason.

NFL – Richardson’s long-term health becoming a concern after leaving 2nd straight game
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson started the first two games of his NFL career. He still hasn’t finished one. The 6-foot-4, 244-pound rookie missed the final minute of his debut after leaving with a bruised knee and left in the first half of Sunday’s victory at Houston after entering the concussion protocol. It’s unclear whether he’ll be ready to play next weekend at Baltimore. But what is clear is that the Colts are concerned about keeping their 21-year-old rookie healthy long term.

Golf – Mickelson says he’s done gambling and on the road to being ‘the person I want to be’
Phil Mickelson says he won’t be betting on football this year. Lefty has posted a message on social media that details his gambling addiction. He says he crossed the line from moderate wagering to addiction and it hurt those he cares about. The post comes as Mickelson returns to competition this week at LIV Golf. It also comes a month after gambler Billy Walters’ book was released. Walters says Mickelson wagered more than $1 billion over the last three decades and once wanted to place a bet on the Ryder Cup. Mickelson says he never bet on the Ryder Cup.
