The Benton Harbor Area Schools Board of Education has finalized a contract with Dr. Kelvin Butts to serve as the district superintendent. He’s been serving on an interim basis since last summer when former Superintendent Andrae Townsel left.
The board has extended the interim contract for Butts several times, and now it’s offering him something final after what it calls “intense negotiations.”
The board says the new two-year contract “embodies the collective best interests of our educators, students, and community at large.” It adds the agreement includes a “forward thinking” compensation package reflecting its confidence Butts will serve effectively.
Butts was the principal of Fairplain Middle School before moving into the district’s top administrative position.
