It’s that time of year when the leaves are falling and you may just rake them up and send them off to a landfill in bags. However, Friends of the Rouge spokesperson Dallas Ford says there are other options better for the environment.

“That’s because these are a natural mulch, and paying to have them hauled away in plastic bags and having them taken away in a truck is not good for the environment,” Ford said.

Ford recommends making a pile of leaves in a corner of your property for animals and mowing the others that can be used as a fertilizer on your lawn or compost. He says bagging leaves and sending them to a landfill is not good for the environment.
