It has now been four years since the COVID pandemic began, and it had quite the impact on education as teachers had to pivot to teaching students online.

Western Michigan University Professor to teaching, learning, and educational studies Regena Fails-Nelson says students fell behind.

We knew that because of the amount of instructional time would be decreased and that some students wouldn’t have access to technology or the internet to even participate in that, that they would lose some academic gains and be behind,” Nelson said.

Fails-Nelson says some kids fell behind half a year to a whole year, and they are making gains each year. She says many students developed higher levels of anxiety and depression because they were isolated from their peers for so long.
