Some Michigan lawmakers continue voicing their support for the historic federal clean car standards for a zero emission future.

The EPA and Biden Administration stress the importance on increasing EV sales as they continue to slow.

Michigan House Majority Floor Leader Abraham Aiyash spoke this week in support of the standards.

“This is an incredible opportunity for us as a state to take on the investments that we are seeing nationwide and make Michigan a leader that we are not going to allow the pollution from vehicles to continue to come out and poison our communities,” Aiyash said. “The fact is clear that carbon pollution, the second highest source of carbon pollution in our state, comes from the emissions of our vehicles and our modes of transportation.”

Supporters also call on leaders to guard against any attempts to weaken or eliminate the new safeguards in the future.

Michigan is already the nation’s leader in EV and battery manufacturing. The state saw its clean energy sector workforce grow to nearly 124,000 workers in 2022.
