An open house will be held next week on a reconstruction project planned for Main Street in St. Joseph in 2027.

Michigan Department of Transportation spokesperson Nick Schirripa tells us the agency is going to rebuild the M-63/I-94 Business Loop from Central Avenue to the Blossomland Bridge, and the I-94 Business Loop to the Bicentennial Bridge.

MDOT just did a survey of residents to find out their ideas for the project and received more than 1,000 responses.

We will be releasing the results of that survey, letting folks know of the results of that, what overriding opinions are on various aspects of the project, talking about different parts of the planning process, what the next steps are,” Schirripa said.

Schirripa says there are no definite plans for the reconstruction project as yet, so the public input gathered from the survey and next week’s meeting is important. Everyone’s invited.

We’ll have some MDOT folks there. We’re obviously going to have some city representatives there as well. Everybody’s invited, whether you’re just an interested resident, you’re a commuter, perhaps you don’t live in the city of St. Joe or live along these routes, but we drive them to a free.”

MDOT engineers will be on hand to answer questions and take comments.

The open house will be at St. Joseph City Hall next Wednesday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Schirripa says it’s unusual for MDOT to have jurisdiction over a town’s Main Street, so this reconstruction project is a unique challenge and opportunity for the agency.
