Golf is very popular in Michigan with 650 golf courses around the state. Along with that comes golf injuries, according to Dr. Joe Guettler with Michigan Orthopaedic Surgeons.

“Everybody seems to have heard the term golfer’s elbow, which is a tendinitis on the inner part of the elbow,” Guettler said. “But golfers can also get tennis elbow, which is a tendinitis and irritation on the outer side of the elbow wrist, low back strains and low back pain, and knee injuries from the aggressive twist when you swing a golf club.”

Guettler says a way to avoid injuries is to stay fit in the off season and to stretch before you golf, have proper technique and have good equipment.

Guettler says he does see some people who end up needing surgery. However, he says there are also minimally invasive surgeries for some issues so you can get back on the golf course.
