Work has begun alongside I-94 on the city of Detroit’s new Hollywood-style sign.

The sign is being placed on the eastbound side of the highway between Central Street and Cecil Avenue.

Detroit-based Fairmont Sign Company Vice President Salem Haddad says the company expedited the fabrication of the letters to have them ready in time for the deadline.

We got into production on these, I would say, a little over a month ago, just working out some kinks along the way, but we ramped it up quickly,” Haddad said. “We got them done quickly, and they’re high quality.”

The new Detroit sign is a bit different different than the Hollywood sign, as the Hollywood sign stands at 45 feet tall, while Detroit’s letters stand around ten feet tall. Still, it’s costing the city $400,000.
