A Planned Unit Development at Harbor Isle Marine has been approved by St. Joseph City Commissioners, but with some conditions. At a Monday meeting, the marine’s Scott Sinar said the business is looking to sell and rent low speed vehicles, golf carts, and E-bikes.

“We believe that these are pretty consistent with what we already do, is as a full service marine, we sell boats, both new and used, and so selling another product, a powersports product, is what we already do,” Sinar said.

Commissioners had some questions about where such vehicles are allowed on streets, and Sinar said customers would be informed. Another part of the plan at the marine is to assemble houseboats, which would essentially be tiny houses placed on top of barges. Sinar said they would be assembled in St. Joe and floated to South Haven. Commissioners had some concerns about that, including whether fire codes would be met. They approved the PUD on the condition the houseboat side of the plan would meet conditions before another meeting next month.
