Niles police say a report this week of a knife attack in a local park turned out to be false. Officers were called out to 15th Street and Silverbrook Avenue around 3:20 p.m. on Wednesday. A woman reported she’d been approached from behind by a man who attacked and cut her. Police tell us the woman did have cuts to her left arm and chest area, and a search of the area turned up a knife in some woods. The woman was treated at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. Officers say she admitted, though, that the injuries were self-inflicted when further questioned. The case has now been closed and turned over to the Berrien County Prosecutor’s office.
